We are an architecture practice that works with a 50:50 split of public clients and private clients on individual homes, new build housing, and public realm projects.

 

Office S&M specialise in infill housing on small sites. As leaders in this field, we have input on the development of Croydon’s small sites policy, which our project Valetta House is featured as an exemplar in; then workshopped Tower Hamlets’ small sites policy, which our project Salmen House is featured as an exemplar in; and most recently commented on the Lewisham small sites policy during two workshops. More recently, we have reflected on the published small sites policy in the London Plan, run talks to discuss delivery on small sites, and presented our advice to Urban Design London as an expert in this area.

 

The practice engages clients and users in a collaborative process, experimenting with colours and materials to deliver joyful and unexpected private spaces and public places. Office S&M responds to the context of each project – house, street or neighbourhood – acknowledging the existing, while deploying colour and narrative inventively to create drama.

 

The practice’s work has been recognized by being named Young Architect of the Year by BD in 2020, a Rising Star by RIBA Journal in 2019, and part of the AJ 40 under 40 in 2021. Office S&M sit on the Design Council Expert Panel, the Hackney Design Review Panel, the Essex Quality Review Panel and the Newham Design Review Panel. As such, our work is of demonstrably high quality in the field of housing design.
