When Jake set up Edgley Design back in 2004, the practice’s first project was Jake's own ‘Secret House’, a self-build on a small backland site in Islington.

 

This self-initiated project allowed us to experiment with design concepts and detailing that has continued to inform our later work. We have continued this strategy of self-initiated development projects running alongside architectural services, which allows the practice to develop ideas and techniques at our own risk before these are implemented on client's projects. The practice brings over 17 years of experience in design and construction management, giving us the flexibility and knowledge to tailor our approach to any project.

 

This dual approach to architecture and development also gives us an insight into the building process from a client's point of view, and wide experience with land acquisition, funding, budgeting and project management. For private clients, we have the experience to manage and deliver unique buildings cost effectively, and for commercial clients, we bring our development skills to help guide and unlock the viability of a project.

 

We believe good architecture is the result of a close collaboration between client, architect, and expert consultants and makers. This begins with working closely to understand your needs at the start of a project, and continues through keeping you informed at every stage, and using our wide network of collaborators, contractors and expert consultants to achieve the best result.

 

Our work has been widely published nationally and internationally and has won many awards, including RIBA London awards in 2015 and 2016. In we were shortlisted for the Stephen Lawrence Prize and were runner up for the RIBA London Emerging Architect of the Year Award.
